Perhaps it sounds tacky but I don't like to beat around the bush. All week and everyday I will be posting a new (open source when applicable) item on SLX (www.slexchange.com) for free!
If you don't know SLX is the premiere online marketplace for SL shopping. OnRez (http://shop.onrez.com) is also an alternate. They are both free to join and even post your own
products for sale! You can find lots of great stuff on SLX and OnRez even if you're broke so check them out!
So be sure and check out my SLX store! I heartily encourage fellow steamers and merchants to join me in showing the SL community that quality does not have to equal 1000L!
Sunday's Release:
Brass Ornithopter Wings (with open source flight assist)
Monday's Release:
Brassy the BrassBot (Avatar)

Cheers!

Welcome to The Grid Steamer!
Welcome fellow Steampunks to The Grid Steamer! We will be showcasing new products, places, news and events related to the Steampunk and Victorian lifestyle within Second Life.
For those who may have stumbled upon this blog
Steampunk is a term used to describe what some have called 'What if the future had happened in the past?' Victorian era style & technology (we love anything steam-powered!) mixed with modern technology and a spot of magic.
Second Life is a 3D Virtual Online World in which anything you imagine can come to life (at least on your computer screen) Also if you can imagine a lot of guys pretending to be female escorts working for an equivalent of $2USD an hour on average, then you're well on your way!
At any rate, I actually wanted to name this blog after our group 'SteamJunk'. Imagine my chagrin when I found out I had waited too long to sign up for a blogspot page. Apparently, someone else also had the insane idea to replace the 'P' in Steampunk with a 'J' and it's another SL resident to boot!
Well, I'm not mad. The SteamJunk blog (http://steamjunk.blogspot.com) is actually pretty well put together and if you get a chance give it a look. It's also got some great links to other Steampunk resources on the net such as Brass Goggles (http://www.brassgoggles.co.uk/brassgoggles/) which some of you may already be familiar with.
This blog like our group 'SteamJunk' will be a community blog so I will be inviting fellow bloggers and creators to join me in contributing their own material to The Grid Steamer, as a 'shared' blog very soon.
If you haven't joined the 'SteamJunk' group yet and you're an SL Resident who considers themselves a SteamFan or at least SteamCurious I would highly recommend you devote a group slot to it. What makes SteamJunk different from other groups is we've brought together many top and upcoming Steampunk & Victorian creators and designers from around SL, to share new products, news, events, free stuff and more.
If you're just joining us make sure you check the past group notices because I'm constantly giving away my own original creations and other free junk. Our other Steamgineers are also pitching in from time to time. So, if you click past the notice pop-ups too quick, make sure you go back, read them and click save or open attachment.
We've got a variety of group roles as well. Let me give you a quick run-down.
Every group member gets the SteamPunk group tag. For the following group tags if you feel you qualify for one of these tags IM Tormented Twilight or a SteamJunk officer. When the group gets bigger we'll be looking at dubbing some SteamKnights.
Steamgineers are for creators and merchants of original Steampunk & Victorian products. Steamgineers can post notices on their own new products and are encouraged to give away free stuff or demos at their own discretion.
Steamster/Steamstress are for designers of Steampunk & Victorian clothing. They can post notices on their own new products are are encouraged to give away free stuff or demos at their own discretion.
Steamthusiast is for avid SteamFans who attend Steampunk related events on a regular basis or for those who host actual Steampunk events, so they can inform the group where and when SteamFun is to be had.
SteamScribe is for bloggers and other SteamJournalists so they can post news and links to interesting blogs or web stuff related to Steampunkery.
Everyone who has one of these titles is encouraged to use their notice priveleges but to do it with discretion. We want to hear about new stuff but, we don't need a notice about every red, pink, and polka-dot cog you make.
If you have new products, news, or anything else you're encouraged to combine into one notice or to enclose a notecard. An additional benefit to holding a special title is getting a pair of Steamgineer Goggles I've lovingly hand-crafted and designed. I'll be working on some Spectacles for SteamScribes as well as Monacles for Steamsters & Steamstreses. I'm not currently selling these special creations and only giving them to group members or during special promotions.
Only Steamgineers or Steamsters & Steamstresses should be putting out new product notices and these should be about your own products, at least for the time-being.
If you find a great new SteamMerchant you're encouraged to IM me about them or send them a cordial invitation to our group yourself.
Myself or an officer will be reviewing members who wish to apply for an official tag. We don't aim to be elitist about giving tags out but, I do need to make sure we're not just giving tags out to some guy who learned how to rez a cube and apply a brass texture to it yesterday.
If anyone has a problem with anything or anyone in the group please let me know! I'll take care of it. If you have suggestions to improve the group those are welcome too.
Furthermore, if you have any questions or need help with anything feel free to post a question in groupchat or even IM me personally if you want. I don't mind being bugged. Its better if you do it while I'm online though. I haven't had IMs capped in a while but, who knows I may become popular one of these days.
For the future of SteamJunk I'd like to open a community hangout/store on a 4096 or larger, a place to hangout, learn a little about building and scripting SteamStyle, and also showcasing some great products and freebies from myself and fellow Steamgineers.
I might end up buying or renting my own one place of these days or perhaps going in on a joint venture with a fellow Steamy. Either way I don't expect any land to be deeded to the group as I'd rather avoid any unnecessary hassles. At the moment, I am currently renting a couple small pieces of land, and a little shop in a great sim called 'The Steam Forge' which I recommend all SteamFans visit or revisit.
Alright, well good on ya if you actually read all this! SteamJunk needs some more good Steampunks! So if you know any SteamFans or original merchants send them my way or send them an invite yourself (just do it in a non-spammy way please) I promise my other posts won't be as long! Thanks to everyone so far for joining us!
